Residents of the launch cities have quickly embraced the innovative e-scooters, and Lime is working to respond to market demand for increased availability.

New Zealand Lime Launcher Hank Rowe said the public response to the release of e-scooters has been overwhelmingly positive.

“Locals and tourists in both cities have jumped on the micro-mobility trend, which has shot our app up 348 spots to the top of the New Zealand charts,” Mr Rowe said.

“Through our work with local authorities it became clear to us that New Zealanders have been seeking more accessible, cheaper and greener transportation options.”

The New Zealand launch saw 600 scooters distributed across Auckland and 400 in Christchurch, with Lime planning to increase e-scooter deployment until reaching its cap of 1000 scooters and 700 in these cities respectively.

Diverse rider communities have been cropping up around both cities with users young and old zooming around, quickly mastering the new technology and demonstrating the accessibility of Lime’s e-scooters.

New Zealand has got the jump on Australia as the company’s first venture into the Asia-Pacific region.

Lime is currently undertaking due diligence in Australia and is hoping to launch in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne within the next few months.

Lime’s commitment to improving city living and urban transportation has transformed cities around the world, expanding to more than 100 markets and clocking 14+ million rides since its initial launch in San Francisco in 2017.
