Central city bus hub update

Press Release – Dunedin City Council

Dunedin (Friday, 21 September 2018) The unexpected need to move a key water pipe may delay completion of the central city bus hub.Dunedin (Friday, 21 September 2018) – The unexpected need to move a key water pipe may delay completion of the central city bus hub.

Dunedin City Council Group Manager 3 Waters Tom Dyer says during construction a watermain outside the Police Station was found to be closer to the kerb than expected. The pipe itself is in reasonable condition, but it needs to be shifted to make sure it can be accessed easily in future.

This work may add some time to the project, but it should only be a matter of weeks.

Otago Regional Council Chief Executive Sarah Gardner says, “We are currently unsure exactly what the timing will be on the bus hub and will continue to work closely with the affected retailers to keep them informed every step of the way.

“Retailers are in the front of our mind and ensuring they are able to trade throughout the construction period is paramount.”

Mr Dyer says, “We will keep pedestrian and delivery access available throughout the work. We realise any delay would be frustrating for businesses in the area and our contractors are working hard to get the job done.”

The DCC and ORC are working closely together through this project to get the bus hub up and running as quickly as possible.

Affected businesses have been informed of the issue and will be kept up to date on progress.
