PopUp Business School Aotearoa to pop-up in Henderson-Massey

August 2018

Budding entrepreneurs living or working in Henderson-Massey will have the opportunity to attend a free ten-day business course from 13 – 24 August.

HENDERSON-MASSEY, Auckland NZ, … August 2018—Henderson-Massey Local Board has partnered with ATEED (Auckland Tourism Events & Economic Development), MSD (Ministry for Social Development) and Xero to bring the PopUp Business School Aotearoa to Henderson-Massey as part of its economic and social development initiative.

Over ten days, PopUp Business School delivers twenty workshops designed to equip participants with the tools they need to start their own business. Topics include building a website for free, the quickest way to find a customer and how to start a business with no money. The course does away with traditional thinking by replacing business plans with actionable, no-cost steps.

The course is free to participants who need only to commit to the ten days of the course.

“We are excited about the PopUp Business School because it gives our community an opportunity to gain some key business skills that they might not otherwise be able to access,” says ATEED Economic Development Manager, Jonathan Sudworth, who has been working behind the scenes to make PopUp Business School happen in Henderson-Massey.

“Small business is really important to the New Zealand economy. 97% of New Zealand businesses employ up to 20 people and this represents 60% of all jobs in New Zealand. We actively encourage people to make that step of getting on their small business journey and attend the PopUp Business School,” says Amanda Nicolle National Manager Industry Partnerships for Ministry for Social Development.

“West Auckland has always been a place where people can get a start and a fresh opportunity. The PopUp Business School will get people moving their dreams from an idea to a business” says Henderson-Massey Local Board Chair, Shane Henderson. “We are proud to work with PopUp Business School, to get people their start, and to promote business activity and jobs in Henderson.”

“Xero is thrilled to be involved with the PopUp Business School. It’s a prime opportunity for budding entrepreneurs to get involved with the start-up community and build their skills. Supporting our start up ecosystem in NZ is crucial to growing our country and supporting small business,” says Nicole Buisson Small Business Director at Xero NZ

The PopUp Business School was brought to New Zealand from the UK last year by Kiwi Tony Henderson-Newport. The first course ran in Porirua in October 2017 and more recently in Tairawhiti-Gisborne in June this year. Henderson-Newport said “So far over 250 participants have attended and formed businesses as diverse as consulting in Health & Safety, drone business, florist, craft, food and so much more. It is inspiring to see the excitement grow in attendees as their business comes to life”.

More information is available at . While the course is free for participants to attend, Henderson-Newport said it would not have happened without the generous support of its funding partners and the Local Board is providing a venue for the course in Henderson-Massey.

“We are grateful to our partners: the Henderson-Massey Local Board, ATEED, MSD and Xero. They recognised what this opportunity means for the community and came onboard. We are just so excited to get stuck in.”
