Free advice for households

Dunedin (Wednesday, 1 August 2018) – The Dunedin City Council is offering free, independent advice on how to make homes warm, dry, healthy, and energy efficient.

Homeowners, landlords and tenants in Dunedin can seek tailored advice from the DCC’s new eco design service.

Eco Design Advisor, Lisa Burrough, says “One of the focus areas is to improve insulation, moisture and heating in Dunedin homes. Typically, these are the biggest issues for Dunedin homes. Homeowners, landlords and tenants will be able to use this service and find out how to make their homes warmer and drier. It’s open to all Dunedin residents.”

The free service involves a consultation at people’s properties, looking at each household’s situation and offering a range of advice, including some no and low-cost options.

“To keep it accessible, a lot of the advice I’ll be giving will be around how to make no cost or low-cost changes,” Mrs Burrough says.

The service can be used to make changes in existing homes, and to make the most of renovations and new builds.

Topics that may be covered include insulation and subsidies, heating options, condensation, mold issues, energy savings, water use, reducing waste and passive design.

The DCC is one of seven councils to offer an eco design service, and the DCC’s eco design advisor is part of a network of advisors that operate throughout New Zealand.

More information about the eco design service, ways to improve homes and a consultation application form can be found on the DCC website.
