Buying Local Pays – Pak N Save gives free groceries for buying local

When Kate Hays left her house in College Estate and headed to Pak N Save on Friday morning the last thing she was expecting was to get all her groceries for free. But to her delight, and that of other shoppers waiting in line at the checkouts, that is exactly what happened. Craig Hanford from More FM stepped in to tell her to put her money away and Tania Taylor and the management of Pak N Save picked up the tab. So why did Kate get her groceries for free you ask?

Pak N Save has joined Mainstreet Wanganui Inc. in a campaign to reward customers who shop local. Once a month until Christmas Pak N Save will pick a customer at random and they will have their groceries paid for no matter what the cost.

Mainstreet Wanganui and Pak N Save have embarked on the Buy Local campaign in order to educate shoppers about just how important their dollar is and the positive ramifications of spending it locally. Part of the ideology behind the campaign is to also make people feel good about buying local by rewarding customers with scratch and win cards. “In total 63 local businesses are on board and rewarding their customers for buying local and we have more businesses joining the campaign every day.” Says Mainstreet Marketing Manager Elise Goodge.

The buy local campaign will run until Christmas, you can find out more about all the ways shopping locally strengthens our community by visiting www.mainstreetwanganui.co.nz.
