That’s the worry of Porirua City Coimcillor, Euon Murrell who called today’s amiouncement by Dr Russell Norman to divert funds from Transmission Gully to the Auckland Rail Loop as, “stupid, stupid, stupid.”

“Just when it looked like Wellington was going to get its fair share of infrastructure projects, a change in Govermnent could wipe all that away and instead send the money to our friends in Auckland and their grand schemes,” he said.

Euon Murrell has called on Labour Leader David Shearer and Mana MP Kris Faafoi to ‘unreservedly confirm’ a Labour-led Govemment’s commitment to continuing with the construction of Transmission Gully.

“This is a much needed project in our region. We need 21st century roading from the airport to Levin. We know the Greens and their anti-road agenda, at least they are up front about it.

But it worries me that Labour has been sucked into this. We can’t afford to have Wellington sold short by a change in Government next year.”

Euon Murrell said the design work had been done for Transmisson Gully, land has been purchased and ‘tens of millions’ has already been spent. Porinla City Council are ready to embark on their largest project to date – $35 million link roads connecting to the Gully from Whitby and Waitangirua.
