On Saturday the 16th of March, Taupo Police responded to a crash on Poihipi Road in a rural area North of the township.

Shortly before 10 am a female rider from a group of cyclists was struck by a passing truck, receiving fatal injuries.

Police are still working with witnesses in identifying the causes of the crash.
