Metlink txt bus and train service to end

The Metlink text messaging service for buses and trains in the region will be terminated from 31 March 2013.

Peter Glensor, Chair of Greater Wellington Regional Council’s Economic Wellbeing Committee, says the text messaging service has been superseded by real time information.

“When txt BUS and txt TRAIN came in they were fantastic; all you had to do was send a text with either your bus stop number or your train station destination and you got a message with the next three timetabled services.

“But now of course you can get real time information for your bus services and real time information will be available for trains later this year. Scheduled train information will be available on display screens at most stations soon.”

People at stations without the electronic information screens can view the train timetable at the station or phone the Metlink Service Centre on 0800 801 700.

Tranz Metro’s text messaging service, that lets customers know about train service disruptions or delays, will continue.
