Australian Market Report
Tuesday 29 January – Local markets have risen sharply, clutching at the heels of the 4,900 – 5,000 mark. The gains were borne from a strong run from the financials. Amazingly, the sector still managed to be one of the strongest performers despite news of the Queensland floods which sent the insurance companies tumbling down. QBE lost 2.67% and Suncorp fell 1.92%. Other notable winners were consumer discretionary and staples.
