New Zealand Wool Services International Limited’s General Manager, Mr John Dawson reports that the combined North and South Island Wool Sale offering 16,850 bales saw a softening in price levels as pressure from urgent shipping requirements came off.

Some grower resistance was evident as the passing levels indicated at 13 percent.

Fine Crossbred Fleece and Early Shorn decreased overall by up to 1.5 percent. Coarse Crossbred Fleece 37 to 39 micron reduced 1.5 to 2 percent in the South Island while in the North Island declined by 2.5 to 5 percent.

Coarse Crossbred Early Shorn and Second Shear reduced 2.5 to 5 percent.

First Lambs were mainly offered ex North Island, these retraced their levels from the previous week declining 5 percent.

Crossbred Oddments both Combing and Carding were 1 to 2 percent cheaper.

China is the dominating participant while Australasia, Western Europe and to a limited support were India and the United Kingdom.

Next sale on 31st January comprises approximately 9,000 bales from both the North and South Islands totalling 18,000.
