Chairman of Central Plains Water steps down

Pat Morrison, chairman of Central Plains Water Ltd since 2003, has retired from the position but will remain on the board as a director.

An integral part the project since its inception in 2000, he believes the time is now right to hand over the reins.

“Having been involved right through the resource consenting phase, and with the scheme now moving into the design and construction stage, it is an appropriate time to hand over the role to CPWL Director and newly appointed Acting Chairman, Doug Catherwood who has been deputy chairman.

“Doug has been a Director and Trustee of CPWL since 2000, and is an appointed member of the Selwyn Waihora Zone Committee,” he said.

Willie Palmer, who has also been associated with CPW since 2000 and a director of Central Plains Water Ltd since inception in 2005, said that Pat has brought to the project both a lifetime of high-level corporate experience in New Zealand and strong rural connections.

“We have benefitted immeasurably from Pat’s experience. On so many occasions his connections, knowledge and acumen have enabled CPW to make progress when otherwise we would have not.

“Pat has shown absolute commitment to the project and has given our work a level of commercial integrity that others dealing with us have respected.

“Without Pat’s involvement we would not have been able to achieve the success we have to date in the timeframe we have,” he said.
