Cityfitness Awarded for Innovation, Professionalism And High Standards in 2012 NZ Fitness Awards

November 2012
Each year, The New Zealand Fitness Awards recognises outstanding accomplishments and initiatives driven by the fitness industry. This year the cityfitness group took out the Innovation Award, and REPs Award – for contribution to professionalism and standards, and cityfitness PT Manager Joe Laiman took out the Mentor of the Year award.

‘we are both proud and excited to be recognised for our contribution to professionalism and standards within the industry’ says Neil Wagstaff, cityfitness National Director of Sales and Operations. ‘We are passionate about our vision to make New Zealand the healthiest nation in the world. As we continue to strive for this we understand that we need consistency in the training and development of our team so that we can provide the most versatile health and fitness solution for all New Zealanders.

By delivering National Certificates in both Fitness and Sales, having our Advanced Fitness Courses recognised with REPs and all of our trainers and facilities registered we continue to ensure that our team are setting the bar high by delivering the best fitness product in the world. We would like to thank both REPs and Skills Active for their ongoing support with the training and development of the cityfitness team.’

The Innovation Award recognised cityfitness Abundance® Yoga and Pilates Studios offering hot power yoga as a core product. A ‘club within a club’, Abundance has been branded within the cityfitness chain of fitness centres to offer added value. The development of Abundance has increased the range of offerings to appeal to a broader market and provides an innovative revenue stream for cityfitness.

Director of Group Fitness and Abundance Mind Body Studios, Allyson Donnelly says ‘We have relentlessly focused on developing the brand and the programs we have introduced to the NZ market and thank Fitness NZ for including us in the category.

Our teachers and staff, who have invested their time and money into developing themselves, their practice, and their ability to transform lives through yoga and Pilates, are the foundation of our studios and are the driving force behind this acknowledgement.’

cityfitness Personal Trainer, Joe Laiman took out the Mentor of the Year award based on his strong focus on building the club culture. ‘On achieving the award, I was humbled to hear the judges were impressed by how highly my trainers spoke about me as a manager and mentor’ says Mr Laiman. ‘my peers are what turn my ‘so called’ job into a lifestyle, a lifestyle I’m passionate and thankful for.

Mr Laiman was awarded based on his use of solid KPIs and weekly meetings to identify gaps and improve performance of personal trainers and fitness mangers.

‘Starting from square one, Joe has grown through the ranks of the company and into the industry’ says Director of Fitness, Gerard Fynmore. ‘He is a fantastic teacher and we are proud that our most Northern Cluster Fitness Manager has done so well.
