Top 100 company welcomes Christchurch CBD blueprint

The blueprint for the development of Christchurch’s CBD has been welcomed by one of New Zealand’s biggest agricultural companies.

Westland Milk Products says the design future for Christchurch will make it easier to retain and attract the talent the company needs to help it accelerate growth in international markets as an innovative producer of specialist dairy products.

With a turnover of more than $525 million Westland Milk Products – which has offices and plant at Rolleston as well as its main factory in Hokitika – is in the top 100 of New Zealand businesses and says its commitment to Canterbury is enhanced by the blueprint.

“It is a welcome and ambitious step forward in taking Christchurch into its rebuild phase,” says Chief Executive Rod Quin. “Re-establishing Christchurch’s CBD will give confidence to our existing and potential offshore customers that Christchurch and Canterbury has all the infrastructure to continue to deliver into the future.

“Creating a city that retains and attracts high calibre talent means that, as our company grows in Canterbury and on the West Coast, we’re going to be able to attract the right people because of the enormous promise and excitement that the redevelopment of the city will bring.”

Westland Milk Products has plans for a new production facility at Rolleston currently going through the resource consent process, and is also looking to grow the number of shareholder suppliers on both sides of the Southern Alps.
