At approximately 10.45 am this morning the Life Flight Trust responded to a motor vehicle accident near the corner of State Highway 1 and Otaihanga Rd on the Kapiti Coast.

Life Flight responded with a Wellington Free Paramedic on board the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

One driver, a 40 year old Levin man, was still trapped in his vehicle on arrival of the helicopter. Fire Service crews extricated the patient, who was trapped for approximately 1 hour in his vehicle.

The patient was taken a short distance from the accident scene to the helicopter and then flown to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department, where he is being assessed and treated for multiple injuries, including possible leg and pelvis fractures.
