Thomson Reuters Launches Major Upgrade to NZ Case Law Research

WELLINGTON, New Zealand, 31 August 2009 – Legal information publisher Thomson Reuters has announced the launch of major enhancements to its online case law services.

The new services, carried on the Brookers Online platform, now provide New Zealand lawyers and legal researchers with the opportunity to search over 124,000 records of cases decided by New Zealand courts and tribunals.

Thomson Reuters New Zealand Country Manager, Haydn Davies, today said the upgrade was a major leap forward in the range and quality of New Zealand case law material available.

“This is the largest fully searchable database of New Zealand case law by a long way,” Mr Davies said. “It has taken a number of years to develop and the use of XML coding allows users to carry out a wide variety of focused searches.”

“This new offering gives users all the benefits of modern online case law research, whilst preserving the integrity of our authorised law report series through the provision of PDF facsimilies of original reported judgments.”

Mr Davies said Thomson Reuters now offered 20 separate topical case law databases, all of which were fully integrated with the CiteCase case citation system. This allowed users to quickly verify whether a case was good law or not and to find citing references to support and strengthen legal arguments.

He said cases were added to the databases daily after classification, and the size and sophistication of the offering firmly established Thomson Reuters as the leading online provider of New Zealand case law.
